Designed as a large spec home for an established family, 6675 at Pinecrest House by MIK Architecture embraces an active lifestyle rooted in outdoor living. From the earliest design stages, the project was guided by the idea that architecture should enhance daily interaction with nature rather than compete with it.
“This home was about coexistence,” explains a lead architect at MIK Architecture. “The goal was to let nature define the experience, not just frame it.”

The Front Yard as Both Asset and Constraint
One of the defining characteristics of the site was its forest-like front yard, dense with mature trees that immediately set the tone for the project. While visually striking, this natural buffer required a substantial setback from the street, limiting buildable area and posing a challenge in preserving generous backyard space.
Rather than viewing this condition as a limitation, the architects treated it as a design opportunity—allowing the house to retreat quietly into the landscape while maintaining a strong spatial relationship with the outdoors.

Immersed in the Forest, Open to the Backyard
The architectural strategy centers on immersing the home within the wooded entrance, while simultaneously opening the primary living spaces toward the backyard, where outdoor activities take place year-round. This creates a powerful contrast between arrival and living experience: enclosed and serene at the front, expansive and dynamic at the rear.
The common areas form the spatial spine of the house, running through its center and acting as a continuous indoor-outdoor corridor.
“We wanted the experience of nature to unfold as you move through the house,” notes MIK Architecture. “The common spaces become a bridge between the forest and the backyard.”

A Central Living Core with Seamless Outdoor Flow
At the heart of the home, the shared living, dining, and entertainment spaces are designed to remain visually and physically connected to the landscape on both sides. Large openings dissolve boundaries, allowing light, greenery, and outdoor activity to permeate the interior.
This layout ensures that nature is not limited to views but becomes an integral part of everyday living—felt through light, shadow, and movement.

Clear Zoning for Privacy and Family Dynamics
To support long-term livability, the remaining program is distributed along both sides of the property, creating distinct yet connected zones. The primary suite occupies its own private wing, offering retreat and independence, while the “youngsters’ area” is located separately, ensuring autonomy without isolation.
Despite this separation, both wings maintain direct contact with nature, reinforcing the project’s guiding principle of openness and balance.
“Privacy doesn’t have to mean disconnection,” the architects explain. “Each zone has its own relationship with the landscape.”

Designing for Market Appeal and Efficiency
As a spec home, 6675 at Pinecrest House was also carefully calibrated for market success. The design introduces multiple “wow-factor” moments—double-height volumes, framed forest views, and seamless outdoor transitions—while remaining efficient and buildable.
An additional advantage was the minimal removal of existing trees, a decision that not only preserved the character of the site but also streamlined the permitting process.
“Respecting the land helped the project move forward faster,” says MIK Architecture. “It proved that thoughtful design benefits both aesthetics and logistics.”
