Architecture Design of 9342 Sierra Mar House

Description About The Project

9342 Sierra Mar House designed by Whipple Russell Architects, to maximize its stunning panoramic views while offering the unique feel of a multi-level residence wrapped around a central courtyard. This courtyard is beautifully adorned with walkways and serene water features, providing a tranquil escape within the home itself.

Upon approaching the residence, one is greeted by a slatted entrance gate edged with bamboo, hinting at the subtle Asian influence that permeates the design. Inside, the dark honey mahogany floors exude warmth and richness, while the detailed roof rafters add an element of intricate craftsmanship reminiscent of traditional Asian architecture.

Despite these eastern design cues, the home is firmly grounded in contemporary western aesthetics, thanks to the extensive use of warm, natural materials such as stone and slate. These materials not only enhance the visual appeal but also bring a tactile sense of comfort and solidity to the living spaces. The seamless integration of water elements right up to the edge of the living areas creates a magical floating effect, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The outdoor pool and patio area serve as the focal point of relaxation and entertainment. Here, Marc’s signature large sculpted bowls, filled with fire and greenery, add dramatic visual interest and a touch of organic beauty. These elements come together to create an outdoor oasis that is both inviting and breathtaking, perfect for both quiet reflection and lively gatherings.

Overall, this home stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of Asian-inspired details and contemporary western design, offering a serene yet sophisticated living environment that is both visually stunning and exceptionally functional.

The 9342 Sierra Mar House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: Nestled in the hills of Southern California, this home is view oriented, but also creates the feel of a multi-level residence wrapped around a central courtyard of walkways and water. A slight Asian flavor can be found in the slatted entrance gate edged with bamboo, the dark honey mahogany floors, and the roof rafter details.
