Architecture Shaped by Landscape
Designed in a picturesque natural setting, R5 House by ArchLAB Studio embraces its surroundings as a defining architectural element. Rather than treating the landscape as a backdrop, the house is carefully oriented so that daily life unfolds in constant visual dialogue with greenery, light, and open air.
“The site offered an opportunity to create architecture that feels calm, grounded, and deeply connected to nature,” explains ArchLAB Studio. “Our goal was to frame the landscape as part of the living experience.”
This approach results in a residence that feels serene and contemporary, balancing modern design with a strong sense of place.

Courtyard-Centered Living
At the core of R5 House lies a courtyard that organizes the main living spaces. Primary rooms are oriented inward toward this private green heart, while simultaneously opening outward to the surrounding landscape through large panoramic windows.
This dual orientation creates a sense of enclosure and openness at once—providing privacy while maintaining uninterrupted views of nature. The courtyard becomes a mediator between architecture and environment, softening the transition between interior and exterior spaces.
“The courtyard allows the house to breathe,” notes the architects. “It brings daylight, greenery, and seasonal change directly into the center of the home.”

Material Contrast and Contemporary Expression
The architectural character of R5 House is defined by a restrained yet expressive material palette. Dark exterior facades provide a bold, contemporary silhouette, while natural stone and warm wood elements introduce texture and tactility.
Panoramic glazing cuts through the darker surfaces, visually lightening the structure and allowing interiors to open generously to the landscape. The contrast between solid and transparent, dark and warm, creates a refined architectural rhythm.
“We intentionally paired darker tones with natural materials to achieve balance,” ArchLAB Studio explains. “The house feels modern, but never cold.”
