Architecture Design of Horizontal House

Description About The Project

Horizontal house designed by Ayutt and Associates Design, nestled within the lush, tropical surroundings of Khao Yai, Thailand, is a modern vacation retreat that blends seamlessly with its natural environment. Set on an expansive 10,000 sq.m. site, the home sits on sloping terrain, offering panoramic views of the surrounding forest and heritage mountains. In response to the owner’s vision for a vacation home that breaks away from the monotonous designs of the gated community, the designer conceived a unique architectural solution.

Divided into three phases, the house features a private residence, a gallery for the owner’s art collection, and a specialized supercar garage. The design emphasizes a horizontal aesthetic, contrasting with the verticality of the mountain backdrop, and incorporates tropical climate considerations, such as large overhangs, open spaces, and cantilevered balconies for sun and rain protection.

The ground floor is a seamless extension of the outdoors, with living spaces opening directly to the garden and a 50-meter swimming pool. A black granite feature wall at the entrance adds privacy, while full-height glass windows on the pool-facing side flood the home with natural light. The second floor houses the master bedroom, kid’s rooms, and a cozy family area, all offering breathtaking views of the landscape. A spiral staircase connects the pool terrace to the master bedroom’s roof terrace, providing direct access to the pool.

The basement, designed to feel like a ground-level space, offers entertainment areas, a zen garden, and a supercar garage, all naturally illuminated by skylights that also frame spectacular mountain views.

The Horizontal House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: The Thai well-known architecture firm Ayutt and Associates design (AAd) designs a latest modern vacation house at KhaoYai, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand in the gated-residential community. The site is surrounded by national forest and heritage mountain, Where the natural curtain of lush tropical trees surrounds the site, whilst its slightly slopping terrain offers an ideal location for the house itself. The owner bought this 6 standard plots of land which is almost 10,000sq.m. of site area. This gated community is nothing new, just like the standard community in Thailand. All the standard houses are designed in the same way by copy and paste with bad ventilation, bad taking view and similar look for all the house types. Thus, the owner asked AAd to design their dream vacation house instead of buying the standard house from the developer.
