A Double-Height Masterpiece Anchored in Geometry and Climate Strategy
In the growing residential district of Barrio Colonia Norte in Córdoba, Argentina, Casa CT by MZ Arquitectos emerges as a bold statement in architectural clarity, material honesty, and thermal efficiency. Rooted in the firm’s signature minimalist vocabulary, the home is structured around a powerful centerpiece: a soaring double-height living-dining area that sets the tone for the entire project.
“That space was our Messi,” joked the design team in their exclusive with Luxury Houses Magazine. “Everything else had to play in support of it—ten more on the field, making sure it performs perfectly.”

A Plan that Plays with Light and Orientation
The ground floor follows an L-shaped layout, positioning the kitchen at the intersection, where it serves both the indoor dining room and the outdoor asador (barbecue) zone. In a clever twist, the grill is positioned outside the barbecue enclosure—allowing the aromas and heat to disperse without affecting the interiors.
“We wanted the kitchen to be the connector—not just of space, but of function,” explained one of the architects. “It’s a hub between fire, food, and family.”
The main floor also includes a two-car garage, laundry, social bathroom, and a study that rounds out the private side of the L. The layout ensures seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor zones while maximizing passive ventilation and solar gain.

An Upper Floor with a Bridge of Light
Perhaps the most theatrical gesture of Casa CT is the glass-railed bridge that spans the double-height core. Designed not just as a circulation space but as an architectural experience, the bridge connects the children’s bedrooms to the secluded master suite. Floating above the living space, it adds both transparency and depth.
“The bridge wasn’t a circulation necessity—it was a spatial opportunity,” said the project architect. “It’s a balcony, a lookout, a moment of pause inside the home.”
Glass balustrades ensure unbroken views across the volume and preserve the lightness of the architecture, which relies on contrast—solid and void, concrete and wood, intimacy and openness.

Materiality that Balances Brutalism with Warmth
Exposed reinforced concrete, textured white volumes, and warm wood define Casa CT’s modern aesthetic. The façade features a white cantilevered upper volume that hovers over the entrance, while W-profile steel eaves frame the arrival experience and accentuate the rhythm of the composition.
Inside, polished concrete floors and soft timber elements create a tactile contrast that avoids the coldness often associated with minimalist design.
“We always aim to soften concrete with emotion,” noted MZ Arquitectos. “Wood does that. Lighting does that. And volume—when used with care—does that.”
The selected lighting fixtures further enhance this balance, accentuating textures, height, and rhythm. By night, the interiors glow with cinematic warmth.

Climate-Conscious Design, Performance-Driven Form
Casa CT isn’t just about form—it’s a house that performs. With passive solar orientation, thermal massing, and strategic cross-ventilation, the home stays naturally temperate even in winter months.
“In July, the interior stayed around 24°C—without heating,” shared the architect. “That’s when you know the game plan worked. That’s when architecture wins.”
By using orientation as a design tool and massing as thermal insulation, Casa CT exemplifies how modern architecture in Latin America can be beautiful, responsible, and resilient.
