A Bold Evolution in Modern Home Design
Curving Modern, designed by JMAD Architecture, is not simply a modern home — it is an architectural sculpture in motion. Located on a serene lakeside lot, this visionary residence introduces razor-sharp rooflines that sweep both vertically and horizontally, transforming traditional architectural vocabulary into a dynamic expression of form and function.
“We wanted to challenge the limits of modernism — to create something that felt fluid yet grounded,” explains the lead architect at JMAD. “The curved rooflines aren’t just gestures, they’re spatial devices that shape experience inside and out.”
This signature roofline is the home’s most arresting feature — a razor-edge profile that shifts in two axes, creating dramatic overhangs, unexpected interior volumes, and seamless transitions between single and double-height spaces.
Form That Follows Function — and Beyond
These sculptural roof forms serve as more than an aesthetic flourish. They strategically overhang key areas to provide solar shading during summer, while gently rising to accommodate a soaring double-height great room. Inside, the curving ceiling form is echoed above the living space, giving it a sense of weightless grandeur.
“The rooflines help the home breathe with its environment,” says the project architect at JMAD. “They transition gracefully from the single-story wing into the two-story volume, guiding light and view along the way.”
This upward motion culminates in the second-floor balcony, an intimate lofted space overlooking the great room. Outfitted with a cozy library nook, it offers quiet retreat while maintaining visual connection to the communal heart of the home.
Architecture That Frames the Landscape
Set along a lakeside backdrop, Curving Modern is thoughtfully positioned to capture panoramic water views. The rear of the home is a celebration of openness, with large windows framing the surrounding nature like curated canvases.
“We oriented every major living space toward the lake,” notes the JMAD design team. “Our goal was to extend the architecture into the landscape without barriers — a gentle flow between glass, light, and water.”
This connection is most powerful in the great room, where the ceiling’s upward curve echoes the horizon line beyond. It’s a gesture that feels both intentional and effortless — an architectural moment where structure becomes poetry.

Lightness, Line, and Architectural Precision
Materially, the home is kept clean and minimal to let form speak first. Stucco walls, floor-to-ceiling glazing, and steel roof fascias emphasize the bold geometry of the structure. The interplay between crisp lines and sweeping curves reflects a careful orchestration of contrasts — masculine and feminine, grounded and lifted, open and private.
“This house is about movement,” reflects the principal architect. “Not just in form, but in the way light moves through it, how the views evolve as you walk, and how the spaces relate to each other across levels.”
