Architecture Design of Hutton Drive 2641 House

Description About The Project

Hutton Drive 2641 House designed by by Whipple Russell Architects is a modern masterpiece in Beverly Hills, CA.

Front Entry: A Harmonious Blend of Textures

The front façade of the Hutton House combines strong horizontal lines with vertical wooden cladding and ribbon windows to create a balanced and textured look. Ribbon windows topped with open trellised roofing add visual interest and dynamic shadows. Architect Yoav Weiss explains, “The trellises allow more light into the rooms, particularly the dining area, and contribute to the home’s square footage as covered patios.” The trellises are a recurring design element on the upper floor, complemented by horizontal slats on the far right for a louvered effect.

A Cohesive and Luxurious Living Space

Despite its 7,500 sq ft footprint, the design’s amenities and functionality make it feel like a 15,000 sq ft space. The home embodies resort-style comfort, blending modern aesthetics with warm, inviting elements. An airy staircase volume anchors the plan, with stair stringers landing on solid walls between ribbon windows, enhancing the floating effect. A large glass floor panel at the staircase’s base allows light from the second-floor skylight to illuminate the dining area and the lower level.

The living, family, and kitchen areas are surrounded by Fleetwood window walls, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor spaces. The kitchen boasts Miele appliances, a marble island, cool neutral porcelain flooring, and warm wood ceilings. The living room’s double-height ceiling opens to a second-floor skylight, illuminating the upstairs walkway, gallery, and seating area. Two guest rooms with baths each feature their own sunny balcony.

The primary suite overlooks the patio, pool, upper lounge deck, and surrounding trees. A palette of beiges, browns, and jet-black contrasts with crisp white recessed ceilings and curvilinear furniture, all warmed by a rough stone fireplace. Skylights brighten the bath, featuring a double steam shower, a sink vanity with Taj Mahal stone countertops, and Gessi wall-mounted fixtures. An elegant dressing room with a lighted onyx counter completes the suite.

Lower Level: An Entertainment Haven

Whipple Russell specializes in creating below-grade entertainment spaces, which are easier to cool in hot climates and offer cozy to lavish settings. The Hutton House includes an onyx bar, a spacious lounge with 150-bottle wine storage, a home theater with fabric wall coverings for excellent sound, and an exercise studio and spa.

State-of-the-Art patio

The patio design exemplifies sophisticated engineering, seamlessly extending the indoor living space outdoors. A pedestal decking system ensures perfect tile leveling over a sloped concrete subfloor for optimal drainage. The open seams between tiles allow rain to pass through to the subfloor, and damaged tiles can be easily replaced.

The Hutton Drive 2641 House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: As hillside design specialists, the Whipple Russell team sometimes finds it necessary to move mountains – or at least part of one, in order to create a spacious yet intimate modern home. To accomplish these goals for our Hutton house, we first cut into the rear hillside to maximize backyard living space and to site the house further from the street in the front. At the back of the property two porcelain stone retaining walls create a balcony lounge area with a fire pit and greenery overlooking the saltwater pool, spa, and the entire property including multiple firepits, and an outdoor kitchen/bar. An Ipe wood walkway bridge leads from this upper seating into the primary suite.
