Architecture Design of Schroeder Flying V House

Description About The Project

Schroeder Flying V House, award-winning project designed by Soloway Designs Architecture + Interiors, is a stunning example of modern biophilic design. Surrounded by the Santa Catalina Mountains and isolated from other homes, this mountain home appears to float within its environment, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape. The design features flying roofs and huge cantilevers, not only in the roofs but also in the house and patios, creating a floating, natural effect that mimics the surrounding rock outcroppings.

Suspended above a creek 30 feet below, the home offers a breathtaking connection to nature. The pool, with its three-sided infinity edge, visually links the home to the creek, a view that can be appreciated from the drive into the property and from all main rooms through slanted glass window walls. This architectural approach allows for 360-degree sunset views, enhanced by a wine cellar accessed through a hidden door in the great room floor.

The auto court and garages are located under the home, maximizing space and preserving the natural beauty of the site. Guests are greeted by a temperature-controlled aquarium at the exterior entry stairs, adding a unique and welcoming touch. The home incorporates sustainable design elements such as solar orientation, low-E glazing, and low-maintenance building materials including steel, stone, cement board, and metal panels, ensuring both environmental responsibility and long-term maintainability.

The Schroeder Flying V House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: Surrounded by the Santa Catalina Mountains and isolated from other homes, this award winning mountain home design appears to float within its environment. The client’s vision is biophilic, a home seamless with this amazing environment — modern and dynamic, yet having simple lines. Flying roofs and huge cantilevers — not only in the roofs, but at the house and patios — present a floating, yet natural effect that mimics the surrounding rock outcroppings.
