A Home Rooted in Meaning and Togetherness
Conceived as more than a dwelling, Sion House by MARRO Arquitectos draws inspiration from the symbolic resonance of Mount Zion—unity, strength, and gathering. The residence becomes a spatial expression of these values, shaping an environment where everyday rituals are transformed into shared experiences.

As the architects explain, “Casa Sion is envisioned as a place where family life unfolds naturally—where architecture nurtures connection, care, and permanence.”

Located in Cuernavaca, Morelos, the 320 m² home is set on a compact and irregular 300 m² plot. Rather than seeing constraints, the design leverages the site’s geometry to create a sequence of layered spaces that feel both intimate and expansive.

Designing with the Site: Light, Ventilation, and Flow
The plan extends toward the widest edge of the plot, freeing up space for a garden while introducing a linear interior courtyard that acts as both a buffer and a climatic device. This green corridor separates the house from its boundaries, enhancing cross ventilation and drawing natural light deep into the interior.

The architects note, “Every corner of the site is activated—allowing light, air, and vegetation to become integral components of the spatial experience.”

Two double-height volumes—at the entrance and in the living area—anchor the project. Both are oriented toward the interior garden, amplifying openness and reinforcing the connection between inside and outside.

Seamless Transitions Between Interior and Exterior
At the heart of the ground floor, a generous social space unfolds, seamlessly extending outward through a large sliding door concealed within concrete walls. This gesture dissolves boundaries, creating a continuous visual and spatial flow toward the garden and pool.

“The house opens itself to its surroundings,” the architects share, “blurring limits so that architecture and landscape become one unified experience.”

A guest bedroom on this level enjoys privacy and direct access to the pool area, subtly separated by a textured wall of natural archaeological stone—an element that balances intimacy with material richness.

Layered Volumes and Architectural Expression
The composition of Sion House is defined by distinct yet interrelated volumes. Cantilevers play a key role: a two-meter overhang shelters the parking area, while above it rests the master suite. A vertical volume frames the entrance, revealing glimpses of the double-height interior through a carefully placed opening above a grand teak door.

Toward the garden, horizontal projections define the private areas, visually supported by a stone base that echoes throughout the design. This interplay of mass and lightness creates a dynamic architectural language rooted in balance.
As described by the team, “Each volume responds to a specific function, yet together they compose a cohesive narrative of structure, shelter, and openness.”

Private Realms and Elevated Living
On the upper level, a central landing overlooks the entrance void, distributing movement between the master suite and the children’s bedrooms alongside a family room. The layout allows flexibility, with access extending upward to a rooftop terrace that expands the living experience vertically.

The master suite, positioned above the carport, enjoys privacy and elevated views, complete with a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom—forming a retreat within the home.

Climate-Responsive Architecture in Cuernavaca
Responding to Cuernavaca’s temperate climate, the house embraces openness. Large sliding doors, shaded outdoor spaces, and integrated vegetation ensure constant airflow and a luminous interior environment.

The architects emphasize, “The climate invites openness—our design harnesses it through orientation, natural ventilation, and fluid spatial connections.”
A Balance of Context, Form, and Life
Sion House ultimately finds its strength in equilibrium—between the irregular site and clear geometry, between solid volumes and open voids, and between architecture and the life it shelters. It is a home that quietly elevates daily living, offering a serene backdrop for family connection and continuity.

In the words of MARRO Arquitectos, “Casa Sion is a place of peace—where architecture, nature, and human experience coexist in harmony.”
