Architecture Design of Umhlanga One House

Description About The Project

Umhlanga One House by Kevin Lloyd Architects perched on a sloping double site in Umhlanga, artfully blends privacy, openness, and breathtaking coastal views. Facing east, the home enjoys distant vistas of the Indian Ocean and lush coastal forests, while its design thoughtfully adapts to the challenging topography.

Accessed via a cul-de-sac at the rear, the house descends the slope through a series of terraced blocks, unified by a bold vertical spine of dark textured plaster. Between these blocks, lush gardens, decks, and a sparkling pool seamlessly extend the living areas, creating a harmonious indoor-outdoor flow. Beneath the main living spaces, the basement houses parking, service areas, and a private cinema room.

This architectural masterpiece balances introverted and extroverted spaces, optimizing the site’s potential for sunlight, climate adaptability, privacy, and individual expression. The result is a dynamic yet serene home that celebrates its unique setting.
