Harmonizing with Nature
Situated on the east shore of Lake Garda, Italy, Villa Dellago is a private residence that responds with subtlety and precision to its dramatic natural surroundings. The architects at JM Architecture treated the sloping site as the guiding matrix for the design, allowing the building to follow the terrain while minimizing excavation.

As JM Architecture explained to Luxury Houses Magazine: “Our goal was to make the villa almost disappear into the landscape, while framing the lake in every key living space. Light, views, and integration with nature dictated every design decision.”

The villa occupies a compact footprint along a natural terrace, with a one-storey pavilion layout that positions the living areas on one end and the master bedroom on the other. Service spaces are centralized, with a staircase descending to carefully designed underground areas that take full advantage of the slope. Two patios open toward the lake, illuminating the lower level with natural light and creating seamless indoor-outdoor connections.

A Light, Transparent Pavilion
The villa’s main floor is characterized by extensive glazing, ensuring panoramic views and a visual connection with the lake. The flat roof, cantilevered on all four sides, balances light and shadow while integrating the building into its surrounding vegetation. With a height slightly over 3 meters, the structure maintains an elegant, human scale.

The only solid portion of the façade is the master bathroom, clad in wood-plastic composite slats with an oak finish that echoes the natural tones of the site. Even here, light and air penetrate via the open-air patio, connecting the interior to a private wet area outdoors. The white aluminum base frame unifies the perimeter, while the South-facing swimming pool extends the geometry of the pavilion into the landscape.

Interiors Tailored for Light and Function
Villa Dellago’s interiors are a study in minimalism and craftsmanship. Fully custom-made furniture, including oak “boiserie” walls, marble bathroom vanities, and integrated kitchen appliances, float within the spaces to enhance light and openness. Privacy is elegantly managed through retractable roller blinds, seamlessly integrated into the ceiling perimeter, allowing controlled views without interrupting the clean aesthetic.

JM Architecture noted: “The interiors were designed as extensions of the landscape—light, minimal, and flexible. Every element, from the wood finishes to the furniture layout, enhances the connection with the outdoors.”

Landscape and Gardens as Extensions of Architecture
The surrounding garden follows the natural levels of the terrain, carefully arranged to respect existing topography. Native olive trees and tall cypresses were preserved, with terraces and plantings designed to enhance the villa’s integration into the environment. Lawns occupy flat terraces, while slopes are planted with vegetation suited to each micro-location. Here, landscape architecture is as essential as the building itself in creating comfort, privacy, and beauty.

Villa Dellago: Architecture in Harmony with Place
Villa Dellago exemplifies architecture that listens to its context—an elegant, restrained, and light-filled pavilion that frames the lake, honors the natural terrain, and offers refined living spaces. From the panoramic glazing to the custom interiors and the sensitive landscape design, every element reflects JM Architecture’s commitment to creating homes that are immersed in nature, functional, and profoundly serene.
