Description About The Project

Black House designed by AR Arquitectos, located in the small mountain town of La Calera just outside of Córdoba. This four bed family house sits in the heart of the Kent countryside surrounded by mature trees and gardens.

Indeed, inspired by the building and land topography of Dungeness, located on the south Kent coast, this house is a collection of five modules clustered around a central courtyard. The Black House’s rectangular massing divided into blocks by key site axes. Also, a view from the pool to a large populus tree, and a previous path to the site. In addition to this, each block linked to a distinct aspect of the garden, with a final connecting view provided from the roof of a brick tower. These volumes all connected by the central courtyard, an area of extensive glazing allowing light and fresh air to continually penetrate the house. Also, provide year round sheltered outdoor space.

On the other hand, the upper floor stands out from the ground at the observer level. Hence, showing itself as a suspended, linear and solid volume, impose from wherever look at it. The brutalism of black concrete combined with moderate kiri wood cladding. This is where private housing activities converge. Sleeping and resting always have visuals of the City. The main staircase is one of the main elements. It is suspended on a concrete wall, with the idea of expressing a lightness sensation over the robustness of another material, such as black concrete. It located at a double height, where the space emphasized and allows a unique natural light entry.

Text by the Architects: Black House designed on a typical small mountain terrain of Córdoba. Located in La Pankana, in the town of Calera, we project a single-family home where the principal idea was to break with the traditional premises. Indeed, the point of attention was placed on the choice of concrete as the protagonist material in all its senses.
