A Courtyard-Centric Home in the Heart of the City
Nestled between a bustling public avenue and a quieter private road, House of B by Sim Ateliers transforms a spatial challenge into an architectural opportunity. What might have been a constraint — the narrow setback from the public street — is turned into the project’s greatest asset: a verdant courtyard that anchors the entire home in light, landscape, and intimacy.
“The idea was to reclaim privacy through openness,” explains Sim Ateliers’ founding architect. “Instead of shielding the house from the outside, we let nature in — filtering noise and eyes through foliage and volume.”
This strategic courtyard becomes the epicenter from which the rest of the home radiates. From the moment one enters through the open foyer — where sculpted landscaping pierces the ceiling plane — it becomes clear this is not a typical urban dwelling.
A Narrative of Fluid Thresholds
The spatial sequence of House of B plays with transparency and separation. The open foyer bisects the home between its social and private realms, yet never feels divisive. A low, reflecting water feature subtly frames the entertainment area, which is enclosed by floor-to-ceiling glass that opens completely to the courtyard, erasing the threshold between architecture and atmosphere.
“We treated the living spaces as extensions of the garden,” says the lead designer at Sim Ateliers. “It was essential for us that each room speaks to light and landscape.”
The living room soars into a double-height volume, bordered by rear gardens and the central courtyard, ensuring passive ventilation and abundant daylight throughout the day. Even the staircase becomes a contemplative journey, positioned beside a slender strip of greenery, with open cabinetry gently filtering the view.

Immersive Transparency and Material Expression
Every room in the house enjoys a tactile connection to the landscape. Each suite is paired with its own terrace or balcony, allowing glazing to stretch uninterrupted from floor to ceiling. Views extend across the courtyard and out to the urban skyline, offering residents a sense of retreat without disconnection.
“The client wanted something both rooted and open — a modern sanctuary that didn’t feel closed off from the city,” notes Sim Ateliers’ project architect. “We achieved that by layering views and controlling transparency.”
Even the master bathroom and walk-in closet hold their own architectural secrets. A hidden pocket garden within floods both rooms with natural light, without compromising the privacy essential to these intimate spaces.

Designing a Technological and Sustainable Haven
Beyond its sculptural form and natural ambiance, House of B embraces modern technology and sustainability. Slim overhangs and a patterned brise soleil system mitigate heat and glare while contributing to the home’s layered façade. Home automation and renewable energy systems were seamlessly integrated, underscoring the project’s forward-thinking ethos.
“We see luxury not just in materiality, but in comfort, light, and intelligent design,” reflects Sim Ateliers’ principal architect. “That’s why every space here — every corner — is curated to frame nature, enhance privacy, and foster wellness.”
In this home, luxury resides in relationships: between space and light, indoors and outdoors, nature and form. The result is a serene, urban retreat that is both sculptural and soulful — a vision of the ideal modern home, realized.
