A Family Home Reconceived Around Openness
Set within the leafy southern suburbs, NW 57 House is an expansive family residence transformed through a bold renovation by GSQUARED Architects. The project responds to a clear ambition: to dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing daily life to unfold in constant dialogue with the surrounding landscape.

“The intention was never to create a closed, inward-looking home,” explains the architects. “Instead, we focused on openness—spaces that breathe, connect, and adapt to family living.”

What emerged is a house defined not by excess, but by clarity, flow, and a strong relationship to its garden setting.

Stripping Back to Rebuild the Spatial Flow
The renovation strategy was deliberately radical. Few existing walls were retained, allowing the house to be reimagined from the inside out. By removing structural constraints, GSQUARED Architects opened the plan to establish long sightlines, fluid circulation, and a sense of continuity across spaces.

“Once the walls were removed, the house revealed its true potential,” notes the design team. “The challenge then became shaping the flow without over-defining it.”
Subtle architectural moves—rather than overt gestures—guide movement through the home, creating moments of pause, connection, and discovery.

Indoor–Outdoor Living as a Daily Experience
At the heart of NW 57 House is its seamless relationship with the outdoors. Large openings and carefully aligned transitions allow the main living spaces to extend directly into the garden, blurring the line between inside and outside.

The expansive outdoor entertainment area functions as an extension of the interior, supporting relaxed family life as well as larger gatherings. From informal lounging to outdoor dining, the landscape becomes an active participant in the architecture rather than a backdrop.

“Outdoor living wasn’t treated as an add-on,” the architects explain. “It was integral to how the house would be experienced every day.”

Simple Detailing, Layered Interest
Rather than relying on decorative complexity, the project finds richness in restraint. Simple detailing establishes a calm architectural language, while carefully placed feature elements introduce intrigue as one moves through the home.

Light, proportion, and material transitions do the heavy lifting—allowing spaces to feel refined without becoming rigid. This approach ensures the home remains adaptable to the rhythms of family life while maintaining a strong architectural identity.

“Luxury, for us, comes from how spaces feel and function, not from overstatement,” says GSQUARED Architects.
Landscape as an Extension of Architecture
The immaculately landscaped garden plays a central role in the project’s success. Designed to be viewed, accessed, and inhabited from multiple points within the house, it reinforces the sense of openness and generosity that defines the renovation.

Living areas are oriented to maximize garden views, while circulation paths are choreographed to reveal changing perspectives of greenery throughout the day. The result is a home that feels grounded, calm, and deeply connected to its environment.

A Contemporary Family Home Defined by Flow
NW 57 House exemplifies GSQUARED Architects’ thoughtful approach to contemporary residential design—where openness, simplicity, and connection take precedence over formality. Through a near-total renovation, the house has been transformed into a flexible, light-filled family home that balances luxury with livability.

The project demonstrates that true refinement lies not in complexity, but in the careful orchestration of space, light, and landscape—resulting in a residence that feels both generous and effortlessly elegant.
