Architecture Design of Omata Beach House

Description About The Project

Omata Beach House in New Zealand, designed by Herbst Architects Ltd, is a stunning contemporary residence that offers breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding landscape. The house is situated on a steep slope that faces the sea, which creates a dramatic backdrop for the design. Indeed, the concept emerged had its seeds in the rocks that are embedded throughout the embankments behind the site. The designer imagined a low rock sea wall that rolls out from the curve of the embankment to form a right angle in the plan and a sharp horizontal line in elevation which establishes a plint. Also, filled to level and onto which, and within the functions of the house placed.

Once insides, the main living areas of the house features a spacious open-plan living room, dining room, and kitchen area. The large sliding glass doors and windows provide uninterrupted views of the ocean and allow natural light to flood the space. In addition to this, the interior of the house designed with a minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes the beauty of the natural materials used, such as timber and stone.

Moreover, bedrooms and a separate guest suite, which also offers stunning views of the sea. The bedrooms designed with large windows that allow for plenty of natural light and provide a direct connection to the surrounding landscape. The exterior of the house features a combination of timber cladding and concrete, which helps to blend the house into the surrounding environment. The Omata Beach House is a beautiful example of contemporary architecture that seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape.

The living pavilion is a light timber structure with glass on three sides that presents itself as a roof floating above the plinth. Also, its slumped curved form softens its impact and raises the line of view from within to the ocean. And its headlands and the hills behind respectively.

The Omata Beach House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: The site for the beach house – Omata Beach House is a spectacular isolated bay on the coast of Northland, fringed with ancient Pohutukawas and contained by steep hills covered in native bush. Indeed, the design challenge was to insert a new structure into the pristine environment in such a way as to be as unimposing and sympathetic as possible.
