A Vision in Geometry: Where Land Meets Horizon

Located in Lobos, in the heart of Buenos Aires Province, Polo House by OON Architecture is a powerful exercise in restraint, precision, and contextual elegance. Sited on a sprawling 20,000 m² property, the house embraces its dramatic setting between a lagoon and a screen of towering eucalyptus trees.

“From the outset, our intention was to design a house that appeared to float above the land, one that interacted subtly with its surroundings yet asserted a strong architectural identity,” explained the team at OON Architecture in an interview with Luxury Houses Magazine.

The design is deeply rooted in horizontal lines and pure geometry. Long planes of white concrete intersect vertical slabs of travertine, forming a composition where solids and voids are carefully choreographed. The effect is one of levity—the home seems suspended in space, grounded only by the rhythms of the surrounding landscape.

An L-Shaped Composition Centered Around Light and Void

The home’s layout is resolved through two intersecting volumes of approximately 50 meters each, forming an L-shape around a sculptural courtyard. This deliberate configuration defines distinct programmatic zones, with the main residence occupying a two-story block and the guest and recreational areas distributed across a single-level wing.

“The L-shaped plan was key to organizing the program,” said the architects. “It allowed us to create privacy while still maintaining constant visual and spatial interaction with the natural surroundings.”

The main volume includes a soaring double-height living room, which opens to both the polo field and the lagoon. A dramatic linear staircase slices through this space, introducing a kinetic energy that contrasts beautifully with the home’s rectilinear lines.

Above, the master suite offers 360-degree views and a suspended, sculptural fireplace that defines a private lounge and workspace within the bedroom. The interior finishes reflect the exterior’s material honesty, with travertine, glass, and white-painted steel used to unify the architecture’s tectonic expression.

Transparency and Light as Architectural Materials

Transparency is central to the design concept. Floor-to-ceiling glass enclosures dissolve the threshold between interior and exterior, while slim columns and extended eaves create a rhythm of light and shadow throughout the day. The house’s relationship with light was so integral that the architects considered it a material in its own right.

“Light was treated not as a passive element but as a substance we could manipulate—an incorporeal material,” shared the team. “We wanted to create atmospheres that shift with the seasons and time of day.”

From every angle, natural light floods the interior, while deep overhangs ensure thermal comfort and visual softness. The limited use of opaque surfaces emphasizes openness and establishes visual continuity with the surrounding terrain.

Designed for Gathering, Crafted for Retreat

While the aesthetic of Polo House leans toward quiet minimalism, its program is bold and expansive. Built for weekend retreats and large social gatherings, the house includes a spa, bar, grill, and an indoor-outdoor pool with a retractable glass wall that merges seamlessly with a wellness space.

An outdoor courtyard with a fire pit, lined by a linear hallway and a bowling alley, leads to six guest suites, each designed for comfort and privacy. Here, the architecture pivots from openness to intimacy, maintaining its language of linear precision while softening in scale.

“We imagined the house as a kind of modern hacienda,” said the architects. “A place that is both monumental and deeply personal, expansive yet protective.”

A Sculptural Dialogue with the Land

Approaching the house, visitors are greeted by a plaza formed by white concrete planes and vertical travertine marble slabs, hovering above a tranquil reflecting pool. This ceremonial entry offers a foretaste of the experience inside: balance, calm, and seamless flow.

Every aspect of the home’s materiality was chosen to foster this sense of harmony. The interior floors bleed into exterior terraces, and water features double as visual anchors and climatic moderators. The courtyard and open-air galleries dissolve the notion of a contained interior, rendering the architecture as a framework for living among nature.

Conclusion: Modernism in the Pampas

More than just a weekend home, Polo House by OON Architecture stands as a sculptural celebration of modern geometry, nature, and spatial generosity. It is a place where form meets function with clarity and grace, and where every surface, void, and shadow has a role in shaping the experience of space.
