Architecture Design of House Eccleston

Description About The Project

House Eccleston, designed by Nico van der Meulen Architects, is a testament to mid-20th century modernism, inspired by the client’s fondness for this architectural style. This open-plan glass and concrete house features a music room for family musical activities and a dance studio for the children.

The property, set on a sloped stand, includes a large basement on the lower side, creating a stepped effect. A reflective koi pond flows over a retaining wall next to the driveway, complemented by an illuminated glass staircase behind a two-story curtain wall.

A rust-finished lift shaft forms a strong vertical element behind the water feature, framed by a cantilevered concrete beam. The staircase behind the koi pond is a double glass construction with lights between the layers. The frameless glass pivot door opens into a double-volume entrance hall and formal lounge, offering views across the lounge and pool into the garden. A suspended bridge, supported by steel cables connected to lattice trusses in the roof space, spans this area.

The family room, breakfast room, and kitchen are enclosed with frameless glass folding doors, allowing for a seamless transition to the lanai, pool, and outdoor bar. A large oak tree, preserved during construction, serves as a focal point in both the kitchen and the main bathroom.

M Square Lifestyle Design mirrored the exterior rusted steel wall colors inside with shades of orange and purple, creating a cohesive aesthetic. They designed a false wall in the lounge to house the fireplace and recessed, illuminated niches. The interior is furnished with luxury brands such as Molteni & C, Horm, Fantoni, Fontana Arte, Tom Dixon, and Foscarini, curated by M Square Lifestyle Necessities.

The House Eccleston Gallery:

Text by the Architects: The client’s fondness of mid 20th century modernism inspired the overall design of this open plan glass and concrete house, which also features a music room for the family to play musical instruments, and a dance studio for the children. Due to the slope of the stand; a large basement was designed on the lower side of the property, creating a stepped effect on the stand. A large reflective koi pond flows over a retaining wall next to the drive way, with an illuminated glass staircase behind a two storey curtain wall in the background.
