Architecture Design of Ridge 52 House
Description About The Project
Ridge 52 House, designed by Ward + Blake Architects, stands as an organic extension of the hillside, seamlessly into the natural landscape. Gently sloping sod roofs not only soften the visual impact for neighbors above but also serve as a sustainable solution to control stormwater runoff. The house’s design, characterized by standing seam shed roofs, extends beyond its structure, capture exterior spaces and providing optimal solar control for interiors.
The elongated form of Ridge 52 House gracefully follows the natural contours of the site, offer a biophilic experience. The spaces within the house open up to embrace the natural surroundings, create a seamless integration with the existing topography. This design philosophy blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, allow materials to flow continuously between them.
Throughout the house, the interplay of mass and void is a consistent theme. Stone walls harmonize with expansive glass sections that not only capture panoramic views but also enhance passive solar performance. Abundant natural light permeates the interiors, warming concrete topping slabs beneath finished floors, provide an energy efficient solution for high mountain winters.
Experience the allure of Ridge 52 House, where architecture meets the majesty of the landscape.

Embodying the rugged beauty of the Western character, Ridge 52 House features natural stone, weathered wood, and rusted metal. Sod roofs pay homage to the historic “Soddy Cabins” of the late 1800s frontier settlements, reinterpreted with a contemporary touch.

The shed roofs, reminiscent of vernacular ranch buildings, honor the region’s traditions, creating a residence that harmoniously blends modern luxury with mountain elegance.

Text by the Architects: Seamlessly tucked into the landscape, the house becomes an organic extension of the hillside with gently sloping sod roofs softening the visual impact to neighbors above while controlling stormwater runoff. Standing seam shed roofs drain to the sod roofs and reach beyond the house to capture exterior space while providing optimal solar control for interior spaces.
