Architecture Design of The Frill House
Description About The Project
The Frill House by Hiren Patel Architects is a climate-conscious residence that embraces the art of landscape integration. Shaped in a “Z” form, the home creates two distinct gardens: a winter garden on the south and a summer garden on the north, each designed to harness the best seasonal sunlight. The south-facing winter garden, densely planted like a forest, captures morning to evening sunlight, making it ideal for colder months. The north-facing summer garden, with extensive lawn space shaded by the home in the afternoon, provides a cooler retreat on hot days.
Each area within the house is oriented to offer a unique garden view, creating an experience akin to moving through a poetic landscape. The journey begins at the entry veranda, transitioning through the arrival room and into an informal living area with expansive corner windows that frame the winter garden. Opposite this, on the southern side, a passageway lined with greenery leads to a family room encased in glass and encircled by tropical plants and towering palms, offering an immersive natural experience.
The architectural journey continues through a double-height veranda opening onto the summer garden, passing the dining and study areas, and concluding in the master suite. The suite’s East-facing veranda captures morning sunlight, creating an ideal spot for relaxation. Both master bedrooms, on the ground and first floor, are situated to enjoy soft morning light.
The architecture blends seamlessly with the landscape, marked by striking white forms that stand in sculptural contrast to the vibrant greenery. Inside, custom furniture, Indian colors, original artwork, and detailed craftsmanship add warmth and vibrancy, creating a joyful counterbalance to the serene exterior. The Frill House’s architecture, interior, and landscaping philosophies align cohesively, making it a sophisticated expression of climate-adapted design.

Text by the Architects: The house is designed with prime focus with landscape . This is a first climate oriented house plan. It has a summer garden and a winter garden. Here the plan forms “Z”. Thus it creates two garden space on south side and north side, The south side garden is designed like a “forest ” to help tree plantations to creat shadows on the building . This used of garden gets sun in morning till late evening , thus ideal to use in winter. Where north side garden has more lawn area , which has shadow of building in afternoon and evening . It gets good morning sun and than later part of a day is shaded . Thus it become summer garden. Ideal to use in hot and summer days.
