Description About The Project

Discover Central Axis House by STATE of Architecture, a modern villa in Curaçao designed around a defining central axis, blending private and social spaces with seamless indoor–outdoor living and refined tropical materials.

The Project “Central Axis House” Information:

Architecture in Equilibrium

Central Axis House, located in the prestigious Coral Estate on Curaçao, is an elegant demonstration of how modern architecture can achieve both simplicity and emotional depth. Guided by a precise organizing principle, the villa is structured around a central axis that defines movement, frames the landscape, and anchors the entire composition.

According to the project’s lead architect, “We wanted the house to feel effortless—like a single line drawn through space, connecting every function without forcing hierarchy.” This design gesture became the backbone of the project, shaping the way residents experience the home.

A Dual-Wing Composition

Private Wing

One wing is dedicated to private living, including the master suite that opens directly toward serene Caribbean views. The design team explains, “The private wing had to feel like a retreat. Quiet, sheltered, but still connected to the sea.”

Social Wing

Opposite the private spaces, the social wing houses the kitchen, dining area, and living room. This wing embraces openness and fluidity, perfect for gatherings and everyday life.

As the architect notes, “Each wing has its own personality, but the axis unifies them. You always know where you are in the house because the architecture is incredibly legible.”

Where Interior and Exterior Become One

Expansive glass façades allow the living spaces to open entirely to the outdoors. The result is a seamless transition between interior rooms, shaded patios, and sun-washed terraces. The Caribbean Sea becomes a constant presence.

The architect shares, “We didn’t just want views. We wanted the outdoors to be part of the daily choreography of the house.”

Materiality Rooted in Nature

The palette—white stucco, cast concrete, and warm wood—was selected for both elegance and resilience.

“Material honesty was essential,” the design team notes. “In this climate, materials must be both beautiful and durable. We chose finishes that age gracefully under the Caribbean sun.”

A Spine That Shapes the Experience

More than an organizational tool, the central axis creates moments of surprise and calm. Each room receives its own framed view of the sea, emphasizing connection to the island’s landscape.

As the architect beautifully puts it, “The axis is not just geometry—it’s an experience. It governs how light enters, how spaces breathe, and how you move through the house.”

The result is a serene, contemporary villa where boundaries dissolve, architecture feels intuitive, and nature becomes an integral part of daily living.
