Cove 6 house designed by SAOTA with majestic surroundings built on a cliff in Knysna, South Africa. This home is recently established private estate with the Pezula Golf Estate as backdrop. Indeed, one of the greatest sources of inspiration for the architectural design came from the natural environment. Besides, the house offers spectacular views over the sea and the rocky landscape. With a carpet of luxuriant shrubs and deep blue ocean, the owner wants a resort that can be in harmony with nature on holidays. Hence, it intended for the use as holiday home during the summer time. Also, it provides a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience with great attention to the beautiful views and surrounding landscape.
As a result, many of the natural attributes can be found in the selected materials, which were used in the effort to complement the natural colors and textures of the landscape. The architects created an airy holiday home that firmly anchored into the terrain by heavy stone walls. Several elements such as terrace and pool provide cantilevered structures in order to use an architectural concept that affects the environment as little as possible.
Externally the natural fynbos was brought up to the house achieving a feeling that the house is set in nature and does not disturb the natural beauty. The building fits comfortably into the natural contours of the orientation of the site. In addition to this, all interior spaces are based on an open plan linear composition to allow views from every room of the house. A maximum of simplicity formed the basis for the entire architectural concept.
