Architecture Design of Keslow Residence
Description About The Project
Keslow Residence, designed by Abramson Architects nestled in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, exemplifies the art of efficient space planning on a compact lot. Despite the constraints of a 50 x 100-foot parcel, this home delivers the luxury and elegance typical of larger residences through a thoughtful design that incorporates overlapping volumes and open living spaces.
Upon entering, residents and guests are greeted by a spacious great room that integrates the living, dining, and kitchen areas under 11-foot-high ceilings. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors flood the space with natural light, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that mirrors the homeowners’ active and social lifestyle.
A custom-designed stairwell screen, made of 1” x 2” steel tubes, serves as both a functional and decorative element, featuring modular walnut shelves that can be reconfigured to reflect the owner’s style. The 13-foot-wide kitchen island acts as a natural divider, separating the kitchen from the rest of the great room, while polished concrete floors and rough-sawn walnut cabinetry blend industrial materials with warmth and sophistication.
Board-formed concrete walls extend throughout the home, contributing to the industrial aesthetic. The staircase, with its perforated metal guardrail and welded steel tube handrail, adds an architectural focal point. Natural light filtering through the perforations creates dynamic moiré patterns, enhancing the home’s visual intrigue. Hidden “ghost lights” embedded in the concrete walls further add to the home’s unique character, offering a soft glow that seems to emerge from within the walls.
Each of the four bathrooms is thoughtfully designed to offer a unique character while maintaining consistency in material and style. The primary bathroom features a freestanding tub and marble walls in the expansive shower, while the children’s bathroom combines a classic white tile backsplash with a double vanity for functionality. The guest bathroom on the ground floor serves as a sophisticated powder room, while the basement bathroom offers a full shower, allowing the lower level to function as a guest suite. In the laundry room, walnut cabinetry is paired with white countertops and playful patterned tile flooring, adding a fresh touch to the space.

The Keslow Residence Gallery:
Text by the Architects: Located in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Santa Monica, the Keslow Residence is a testament to the power of efficient space planning in a home. Built on a modest sized lot, we worked closely with the homeowner to give the type of amenities and elegance associated with larger residences, while working within the confines of a 50 x 100-foot parcel. The result is a design that utilizes overlapping volumes to create an organic flow of living spaces.
