Architecture Design of Tinderwood House
Description About The Project
Tinderwood House designed by Metropole Architects, is a luxury home that sits on a gentle hill overlook the Indian Ocean. The Zimbali Coastal Resort in Ballito, South Africa, combines a lush coastal forest, beaches and panoramic views of the ocean.
It is the fact that there was an existing house on the site. Initially, the plan was to demolish that home. However, when they did a full investigation, they chose to retain the existing structure. The primary architectural interventions included remove the bulk of the internal structure to allow for light filled open plan sea view living. Also, introduce a 20m lap pool extend across the entire front of the home. Besides, increase the area of the upper floor, incorporate a home cinema, and redesign all four elevations to introduce fresh energy and excitement to the architecture of the home.
On the other hand, approach the entrance to the home, a double volume steel and timber louvre screen framed by a monolithic travertine marble clad element, encase a shallow water feature. In addition to this, a gallery type double volume entrance characterized by a sculptural staircase, walnut cladding and striking artwork, combine to intentionally create a boutique hotel type atmosphere.
Besides, the main bedroom suite treated as a presidential hotel suite would be in a upmarket luxury hotel. It includes a private lounge and office as well as a sauna beyond the obligatory full ensuite bathroom and walk-in dressing room.

The Tinderwood House Gallery:
Text by the Architects: Tinderwood house is located on a gentle hilltop that overlooks the Indian Ocean, in Zimbali Coastal forest Estate, Ballito, South Africa. An existing home faced the possibility of demolition to make way for a more interpretation of the governing design guidelines of the estate. A thorough investigation of the original design revealed a strong platform for the end goal, as such the decision was made to retain, yet strip down the existing structure to the point of completely reimagining what was possible on the site.
