Architecture Design of Travertine Dream House

Description About The Project

Travertine Dream House, a creation of Wallflower Architecture + Design, unfolds as a symphony of two parallel blocks interconnected by a glass-enclosed bridge. This separation not only facilitates daylight penetration into basement spaces but also elevates the architectural narrative. Robust travertine walls and expansive overhangs adorn the western facade, expertly mitigating the intrusion of harsh afternoon sun. Longitudinally organized, the entry, living spaces, and bedrooms optimize cross ventilation and natural illumination. Maximizing land utilization while evading an imposing presence, the four-story house ingeniously incorporates a sunken level and three elevated levels.

Greenery and water features are interwoven throughout the residence, accentuating the connection with nature. On the ground floor, living and dining areas seamlessly extend towards a pool and fish pond. In the basement, entertainment areas and guest rooms embraced by an open sky, drenched in sunlight through a sunken moss garden courtyard. The top floor boasts a flat roof, serving as both a recreational deck and rooftop garden.

The entrance experience choreographed by layers of travertine wall, blurring the distinction between outside and in. The minimalist detailing amplifies the purity of form, emphasizing the juxtaposition of solidity and transparency. The slender blocks accommodating the living areas, the substantial stone cladding, multi-tiered gardens, and water elements collaboratively ensure a cool, well-ventilated, and naturally illuminated interior. This spatial composition of voids, layers, and volumes harmonizes moments of serene reflection with joyful family interactions, offering spaces attuned to various moods and occasions.

To suit however much green and “blue” space as could be expected, the greenery enclosures and water bodies are spread all through the house. The living and feasting regions on the ground floor confront a swimming pool and a fish lake.

The Travertine Dream House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: The client’s brief for this house was simple. Functionally, to maximize usable area and to incorporate greenery. Aesthetically, to use travertine copiously as an architectural finish. Inspired by the Italian urban-scape during his travels, so too would travertine express this house
