Description About The Project

East House by IR Architects reimagines contemporary California living with clean lines, floating planes, and a masterful connection to light and landscape.

The Project “East House” Information:

A Quiet Composition of Modernist Lines and Natural Warmth

Set within a peaceful residential enclave in Los Angeles, East House by IR Architects emerges as a contemporary haven shaped by volume, clarity, and serenity. The architecture is defined by a language of simplicity—planes of white render, floor-to-ceiling glass, and floating overhangs—yet every move is deeply intentional and emotionally resonant.

“We approached this home as an architectural meditation,” said the lead architect at IR Architects in an interview with Luxury Houses Magazine. “It’s a structure of silence, light, and restraint—where everyday life feels elevated by design.”

Architecture Rooted in Light and Balance

At first glance, East House expresses a distinctly modernist silhouette: bold horizontal rooflines, monolithic walls, and expansive fenestration. But beyond its sculptural exterior lies a perfectly choreographed spatial rhythm that responds to the sun, sky, and privacy.

The home opens to a central living pavilion that stretches along the rear garden, seamlessly connecting interior social spaces with shaded outdoor terraces. Oversized sliding panels dissolve boundaries, allowing nature to extend into the home.

“In a city like Los Angeles, the line between inside and outside should feel almost invisible,” the architect noted. “Our aim was to create a home where architecture breathes with the rhythm of its environment.”

Material Tones That Whisper, Never Shout

Materiality plays a key role in East House’s tranquil ambiance. Polished concrete floors, white oak paneling, and soft limestone details create a palette that is subdued but tactile. Natural light interacts with every surface—creating shadows that evolve with the day.

“We avoided anything ornamental or loud. Instead, we focused on material honesty,” said the architect. “Each finish is chosen for how it feels underfoot or how it reflects light—not just how it looks.”

The open kitchen, clad in matte lacquer and Carrara marble, is subtly integrated into the living volume. Custom furnishings and built-in shelving further streamline the spatial experience.

Zoning for Stillness and Privacy

Designed for a young professional couple, East House offers a master suite wing separated from guest quarters and workspaces, allowing for flexibility, calm, and retreat. A light-filled corridor lined with glazing acts as both threshold and gallery, guiding residents between public and private zones.

“Spatial flow was essential. We created sightlines that draw you toward green spaces while protecting moments of solitude,” the team explained to Luxury Houses Magazine.

The master suite opens to its own terrace and garden nook, complete with a tranquil water feature and morning sun exposure. Bathrooms are minimal, sculptural, and spa-like in tone.

Landscape as Architectural Extension

Surrounding East House is a curated landscape of native grasses, olive trees, and linear concrete paths that echo the home’s geometry. An angular reflecting pool mirrors the sky, reinforcing the house’s deep connection to the natural elements.

“We see the landscape as the final architectural layer,” concluded IR Architects. “It softens the lines, brings movement, and reminds you of the seasons even in California’s steadiness.”
