Architecture Design of Courtyard House

Description About The Project

Courtyard House designed by Ming Architects, nestled between a koi pond and a swimming pool, masterfully redefines linear architecture with a striking double-volume courtyard at its core. Acting as the fulcrum of the residence, the courtyard introduces visual and spatial dynamism, flooding the interior with natural light and breaking the monotony of its linear layout. Horizontal and vertical transitions feel seamless, connecting key living spaces with a sense of openness and fluidity.

At the heart of the home, a three-story steel staircase floats elegantly above the central koi pond, framed by a vertical black pebble feature wall that adds texture and depth. A slim, suspended bridge spans the courtyard, linking the front and rear wings of the house, offering both functionality and a bold architectural statement.

The exterior of the house is a harmonious interplay of sleek white facades, chamfered wall details, and warm teak timber screens. These timber accents extend to the ceilings and external walls, creating a striking contrast with the polished marble interiors and dark pebble finishes. Landscaping further softens the modern aesthetic, integrating the residence into its lush surroundings.

Internally, the house offers a layered experience of interconnected spaces. Sliding-folding doors erase boundaries, allowing indoor and outdoor spaces to merge, creating a versatile environment for various activities. Elevated on higher ground, the home enjoys panoramic views of surrounding greenery, a feature further capitalized on by the expansive roof terrace. Designed for entertainment, the rooftop space provides a seamless extension of the home, accessed via the iconic staircase and offering a perfect setting for gatherings.

Courtyard House embodies simplicity, sophistication, and thoughtful design, blending robust linearity with warmth and natural harmony.

The Courtyard House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: Flanked between the koi pond and the swimming pool, the double volume courtyard – a fulcrum to the house, was introduced to break the monotony of spaces in this linear house. Horizontal and vertical movements are endless and ample daylight floods the key living spaces in this linear house. A three storey high feature steel staircase floats above the koi pond, with a vertical feature wall of black river pebbles as its backdrop. A slim bridge suspends over the courtyard and ties the front and rear wings of the house.
