Architecture Design of DeSantis House
Description About The Project
DeSantis House, designed by Soloway Designs Architecture + Interiors, is a striking modern home characterized by exposed concrete, steel, and expansive fields of glass. Entering from the upper level, the natural site falls away, revealing a two-story structure with breathtaking views of the Colorado High Desert. The Great Room is anchored by a stunning L-shaped vertical fireplace faced with glossy simulated marble, while clerestory windows add height and light to the space. The rear of the home features spacious covered outdoor areas with multiple lounge spaces, outdoor dining and kitchen areas, and a pool and spa overlooking the valley below.
The clients, professionals in the construction field, sought a home that exemplified modern building materials and methods while providing a relaxed atmosphere for entertaining guests. The concrete driveway sweeps past a curved concrete retaining wall, revealing the extent of the two-story residence. Custom steel railings wrap the retaining wall, with bolted attachments left bare to expose building techniques.
A covered entry leads to an expansive Great Room, where muted tone-on-tone interior finishes create a comfortable and airy environment. The L-shaped vertical fireplace wrapped in glossy simulated stone serves as a visual anchor, showcasing the latest finishing capabilities. Sliding window walls in the Great Room open to merge the space with outdoor lounge areas, offering panoramic views of the distant desert mountains.
The home features an overhang with built-in patio heaters, lofted by double-height steel columns rising from the lower patio. Exposed concrete and steel staircases, both inside and out, feature integrated tread lighting. The lower floor’s entertainment room opens to the pool and spa patio, which rises on exposed concrete walls as the landscape slopes away, creating a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
