Description About The Project

Kite House designed by React Architects, features with angular walls and a sunken architecture. Indeed, the project is a piece of crisp, minimalist architecture arranged around a central courtyard and set in a way the emphasises horizontality, in keeping with the landscape and local building fabric.

The site located on a gentle slope a stone’s throw from the shore, overlooking the sea and the smaller island of Antiparos. Embedded into the natural contours of the land, the residence ranges between elevated views on the main Southeast facing elevation to being almost completely underground on the Western side. Also, buildings, courtyards, roofs, and the swimming pool interconnect by two “promenades” that give the feeling of a small settlement that extends on two levels.

The program comprises a living room, kitchen, and two ensuite bedrooms, all of which have a view toward the sea. There’s also a semi subterranean guest house on the lower level. Pockets of outdoor space connect the interiors to nature. Besides, the interior follows the simplicity of the exterior and the furniture as well as the elements of the decoration complement the architectural members. The volumes are left intact inside and the low partition walls enhance the continuity between the outside and the inside.

Without a doubt, transparency, nature and a contextual minimalism that draws on the island’s atmosphere of Cycladic simplicity dominate in this holiday home. Hence, ensuring relaxation and serenity come hand in hand with a showstopping architectural adventure.

A swimming pool and garden, sparsely populated by native vegetation, drawing on the island’s wider natural setting, complete the complex.

Meanwhile, two ‘promenades’ give ‘the feeling of a small settlement’. The plantings create a Mediterranean and xeriscape landscape, with a variety of textures, colors, and aromas that provide the space of Kite house with harmony and seasonality, enhancing the biodiversity of the region.

Text by the Architects: The site is in the settlement of Pounta in Paros Island, with a view towards the sea and Antiparos from its west side. It has a particular shape, a small slope, and it is within 120 meters from the shore.
