Architecture Design of The Eagle House

Description About The Project

The Eagle house designed by Justin Humphrey Architects, sits both proud and bold in its confident address to the street. Indeed, the designer focuses on a banded and staged approach to disperse the overall form and propose a home that engages and embraces the natural elements. Located on Burleigh Heads, the house spans multiple levels, and through the push and pull of opposite exterior elements, its overall superiority is weakened and articulated, while retaining its presence.

To break down the overall volume, the architect designed horizontal strips that formalize and frame each level. Glass panels push inward to give a sense of relaxation from the outer edge of the site. The architects used this formal approach to create a rhythm that blurs the boundaries while adding structure to the interface between the public and private spheres, ensuring that the building remains sensitive to its environment.

Once insides, the low concrete wall leads to the living spaces. While the sculptural steel and timber stairs offer access to private spaces on the first floor. Internally dark and moody finishes moderate scale and draw attention to and frame the curated landscaping outside. In addition to this, a beautiful off-form concrete plinth grounds the house while creating a strong gesture that guides one into the double – height entry breezeway. This is a cool and airy space that sets up a clear relationship between the public and private spaces within the house.

Skylights and transparent walkways offset dark finishes with plenty of natural light allowed to flood deep within the plan.
