Architecture Design of Corner House
Description About The Project
Corner House, designed by DADA Partners, is situated in a prominent suburban neighborhood in India, occupying a pivotal corner location. The design of the house revolves around its multiple frontages, create an engaging and experiential space that interacts with the surrounding streetscape on three sides. The goal was to create a contemporary and sustainable home that harmoniously connects with a beautifully landscaped outdoor area, while also being sensitive to the environment.
As one approaches the entrance, it initially appears conventional, but upon closer inspection, a striking feature comes into view – a large cantilevered wall covered in timber, suspended over a reflective pool. This projected wall transforms into an inverted L shape, forming a spacious and shaded portico. The overhang of the canopy allows just the right amount of morning sunlight to filter through into the formal foyer. The internal layout of the house organized around a central courtyard positioned towards the corner, which provides a sense of openness and visual connection.
The first floor of the house features four additional bedrooms, include another master suite. The latter positioned towards the North and opens onto a private balcony overlook the internal courtyard. Above the formal space on the ground floor, a fully glazed pavilion designed to serve as a versatile multi-purpose area.
To ensure privacy, the West side of the ground level is solid and faces the street. On top of this, a wraparound timber louver system created to act as a solar control screen, effectively provide self-shading for the facade without the need for external sun shading devices. The house incorporates passive design principles, with key rooms and spaces oriented towards the North for effective solar shading. Windows have been strategically placed to facilitate cross-ventilation. While minimizing the number of windows facing East and West.
