Architecture Design of Getty View Residence

Description About The Project

Getty Center, Getty View Residence, designed by Abramson Architects, perched on a quiet cul-de-sac with breathtaking views of the iconic , is a striking three-story home that seamlessly integrates art and architecture. The home’s design reflects the owner’s deep passion for art, featuring minimalist geometric volumes that harmonize with the surrounding landscape.

Approaching the residence, visitors are greeted by a gated driveway that offers a glimpse of the home’s inventive structure. The building is composed of three stacked volumes, each with distinct materials: the concrete basement anchors the home into the hillside, while the floor above features a glass façade with aluminum louvers, balancing transparency and privacy. The top volume, wrapped in white stucco, appears to float effortlessly above the metal-clad level below.

A stepped path leads to the entry lobby, where a compact reflecting pool and lush greenery add a sense of tranquility. Inside, a sculptural stairwell made of poured terrazzo and solid wood ascends from the earthy surroundings, evolving from a practical element into a site-specific art installation.

The main level is designed as a gallery-like space, with neutral tones and large white walls perfect for displaying contemporary art. The open-riser staircase features a concrete platform that doubles as a display for delicate artifacts, emphasizing the home’s blend of art and architecture. In the living room, a glass-enclosed melaleuca tree extends through the roof, further blurring the line between indoors and outdoors.

An abstract sculpture by artist Guy Dill stands prominently in an exterior courtyard near the entry. The courtyard narrows into a landscaped alcove that runs through the living areas, softening the transitions between the common spaces and more private areas of the home.

The upper level features cool gray wood flooring, which creates a serene atmosphere in the sleeping quarters, contrasting with the lively art-filled spaces below. The master suite includes a cantilevered reading nook overlooking a peaceful poolside patio, while a perpendicular wing houses two additional bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Throughout the home, custom casework designed by the owner—a photographer and interior designer—adds a personalized touch, including the floating color-blocked credenza in the dining room.
