Architecture Design of House in Vilnius

Description About The Project

House in Vilnius, designed by Architectural Bureau G.Natkevicius & Partners, is a masterful blend of aesthetics and problem-solving, harmonizing with its unique plot. Situated on a complex site bounded by a road, a neighboring property, and a pine forest, the design addresses both positive and negative aspects of the location.

The architects ingeniously tackled the challenges posed by the plot. Firstly, they positioned the building to minimize exposure to the nearby road’s noise and the glare of headlights, ensuring serene living spaces away from these disturbances.

Secondly, they maintained a respectful distance from the neighboring property, avoid direct sightlines and preserving privacy. The design intentionally lacks showcases or windows facing this direction. Instead, the house embraces the picturesque views of the adjacent pine forest.

The house’s distinctive volume comprises several triangular elements clad in copper-profiled sheet metal, resembling a striking shrimp-like shape. One edge of the triangular form serves to shield the property from the neighboring house, maintaining privacy. Meanwhile, the other “shrimp pincer” shields the house from road noise and intrusion.

Adding to the architectural charm is an interior staircase, spiraling like a helix, that gracefully traverses the house from the first floor to the second, making for an eye-catching and functional detail. House in Vilnius stands as a testament to thoughtful design that elegantly addresses the nuances of its surroundings.

For this reason, no showcases or windows were incorporated into the design of the house, and the primary orientation of the house was chosen to have the most valuable view of the pine forest.

The design’s brilliance becomes apparent from an aerial perspective, resembling an inner courtyard with a roof partially covering it. This layout not only enhances privacy but also opens up captivating views of the enchanting pine forest through expansive aluminum-framed windows.

The entrance area has a beautiful interior detail – a staircase, like a helix, cutting through the first and second floors of the house.

Text by the Architects: The plot is not completely simple – on one side, it is bordered by a road, on the other side very close to the boundary of the plot and at the same time the fence a neighbor’s house is, and on the third side the plot is bordered by a pine forest.
