Architecture Design of Sorrento Beach House

Description About The Project

Sorrento Beach House designed by Jost Architects, is a captivating blend of modern aesthetics and functional design. Situated alongside a bustling road, the design prioritized security and noise management, resulting in a harmonious coexistence with the surroundings.

Interior designer Simone Haag collaborated on the project, infusing soothing green tones in the second sitting room and conceptualizing the stunning mural in the master bedroom. The house’s passive thermal control mechanism ensures cross ventilation throughout and leverages natural airflow for temperature regulation. The strategic orientation of glass panels and eaves manages sunlight exposure, and the early installation of a solar system ensured energy efficiency during the construction phase.

The house’s exterior materials harmonize with the serene coastal landscape it inhabits. The vertical timber cladding, designed to weather gracefully, complements the concrete cladding on the top floor and white painted brick walls elsewhere. Inside, thermally modified timber tongue and groove boards adorn walls, arches, and ceilings, creating a warm ambiance that pairs beautifully with Atlas Green marble used in the kitchen.

The Sorrento Beach House harmoniously fulfills its brief, serving as a versatile holiday retreat for extended family and friends while also catering to future single-level living. The dedicated efforts of builder Ryan Waterson from Waterson Build and landscape designer Clea Cregan from Miniscape Projects truly shine in realizing this exceptional architectural vision. This coastal sanctuary stands as a testament to design prowess, seamlessly merging contemporary aesthetics with the laid-back charm of Sorrento.

Vault Terrazzo flooring and light bagged brickwork bring an airy beachside feel to the space, while organic curves soften the architecture’s angular lines.

The Sorrento Beach House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: After snagging a quarter acre block in the heart of Sorrento, our clients commissioned us to design a home that would suit them both as a holiday house for now and a permanent home in the future. The brief was exacting. A “super-stylish and cool” design that was seamless from inside to outside entertaining with Scandinavian and mid century modern influences. A second story with an amazing view, a separate reach. But not too far, bungalow for the clients’ three soon to be teenage children, and a solar heated pool. Finally, a roof deck with unimpeded views of the surrounding tea trees. They also wanted at least four bedrooms, privacy from their neighbors, and, unusually for a beach house, a darker, moodier interior with plenty of timber, stone, and glass.
