Architecture Design of Tanager III House
Description About The Project
Tanager III House, a masterpiece meticulously designed by McClean Design in the exclusive cul-de-sac of West Hollywood’s renowned bird street area. The fourth residence in this ultra-exclusive enclave of just nine homes, Tanager III House seamlessly balances urban luxury with natural beauty.
Upon entering through the front door, a striking linear lighting fixture draws the gaze towards the lush green space and the inviting pool beyond. The main floor showcases a harmonious blend of functional spaces, including an office, kitchen, living and dining rooms, and the primary bedroom suite. The kitchen and dining areas open entirely to the mesmerizing views, while a unique staircase and lightwell, separated by a floating stone fireplace, add a touch of sophistication.
To address the site constraints and parking needs, a linear courtyard adorned with a two-story green wall was ingeniously integrated. This courtyard, along with a generous skylight over the staircase, floods the basement with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for the gym and wellness space, as well as two additional bedrooms that open to a serene garden at the rear of the property.
Collaborating with Owner and interior designer Tehila Shelef, McClean Design curated a unique palette of warm materials, including natural woods, travertine, and marbles, instilling a sense of comfort and contemporary elegance throughout Tanager III House. This architectural marvel seamlessly combines urban luxury, stunning views, and a connection to nature, creating a residence that transcends the ordinary.
Nestled on a tight lot with a strategic view of downtown Los Angeles from the rear, the architectural challenge was to maximize the captivating cityscape from within the home while preserving outdoor space and channeling light into the basement. McClean Design ingeniously addressed this challenge by utilizing the front slope to create a discreet four-car tandem garage beneath the main living areas, ensuring privacy from the street.

The Tanager III House Gallery:
Text by the Architects: The fourth house that we have designed on this small ultra exclusive cul-de-sac of only nine homes in the famed bird street area of West Hollywood, this was a tight lot with a good view towards downtown Los Angeles from the rear of the property. The challenge we had here was to balance capturing as much of the view as possible from the primary spaces within the home while maintaining some outdoor space and somehow capturing light in the basement below. We took advantage of the slope across the front of the property to tuck a four car tandem garage below the main living areas which helped to create a sense of privacy from the street for the house itself.
