Architecture Design of VR House

Description About The Project

VR House, designed by SAU | Studio Arquitetura Urbanismo, is a striking example of contemporary architecture that seamlessly blends with its unique and challenging terrain. Situated on an eccentric plot with a steep slope, the design introduces an elevated plateau 2.50 meters above street level. This elevated ground floor serves as the cornerstone of the residence’s layout, creating a virtually free slab that organizes the flow and functionality of the home. The ground floor, entirely open and free of walls, rests on a robust gabion stone wall, integrating interior and exterior spaces into a cohesive plaza for socializing and events.

Designed for a culinary enthusiast, the house accommodates family leisure and small gastronomic gatherings. The bedrooms are oriented to capture the morning sun, featuring a continuous balcony that connects each room and is shielded by sliding louvered panels. These panels not only filter light but also contribute to the home’s distinctive architectural identity. The rooftop deck offers a serene space for lounging and meditation, complemented by a garden and unobstructed views of the neighboring environmental protection reserve.

The house’s materials are used with transparency and honesty, showcasing the structural system rather than concealing it. Exposed metal beams, concrete elements, and stone walls define the architectural language, emphasizing the construction techniques of its time without adhering to any specific stylistic constraints. Glass and concrete are the primary materials, with a rawhide stone wall supporting the swimming pool and vertical aluminum louvers providing privacy and light control for the bedrooms.

The VR House Gallery:

Text by the Architects: Situated on a plot with an eccentric shape and a steeply sloping portion, the construction for VR House suggested the creation of a plateau 2.50 meters above street level, an elevated ground floor that organizes the flows and from which the entire functioning of the residence is structured. This virtually free slab is the guiding principle of this project. The ground floor, entirely free of walls, rests on a gabion stone wall and has an integrated interior and exterior at the same level, forming a kind of plaza for socializing and events.
