Architecture Design of Verandah House
Description About The Project
Verandah House, designed by VPA Architects, stands as a quintessential example of contemporary architectural elegance. This modern villa seamlessly blends minimalist design with a harmonious balance of indoor and outdoor spaces. The use of cantilevered exposed RCC slabs and expansive glass facades highlights the house’s sleek aesthetic while fostering a strong connection with its natural surroundings.
Spanning 8400 sq. ft., the house is designed to accommodate a joint family of nine, consisting of three couples and three children. The architectural layout follows an L-formation, thoughtfully planned based on the sun’s path and directions to optimize natural light and climate control. This design ensures that most areas open towards the North, which is ideal for the Indian climate.
The concept of “coexistence” is central to the design philosophy of VPA Architects, especially when responsible for both landscape design and architectural planning. The drawing room, situated amidst lush greenery on three sides and a water body on the fourth, epitomizes this philosophy. The glass facades in this area make it feel as though one is part of the landscape even when indoors.
A visually enticing double-height space in the center of the home extends the house’s volume vertically. This central living area opens up to a courtyard on one side and a verandah and garden on the other, making it a perfect space for large gatherings. The verandah itself opens to a deck and seating area, enhancing the indoor-outdoor living experience. Decorative glass light fixtures hanging at different heights accentuate the importance of this central area, while an intricately designed wall mural adds visual interest and breaks the monotony of solid wood as one walks towards the rooms on the first floor.

The Verandah House Gallery:
Text by the Architects: This quintessential contemporary house is a perfect representation of the architectural language that the firm follows; clean, straight-line and minimalist. A modern villa with cantilever exposed RCC slabs and glass facades. This house is a right balance between the inner and outer space; wherein the constructed structure stands in equality with the landscaped area. The L-formation architectural planning is a result of the sun path and directions. The L-plan was done so that most of the areas open up towards North, which works best for the Indian climate.
