Casa Pattaya designed by makeAscene, situated in the bustling resort town of Pattaya, is a masterful architectural response to the challenges of high-density surroundings. The design balances the relaxed atmosphere of a seaside retreat with the need for privacy in a compact neighborhood. Through thoughtful massing and the creative use of negative space, the house achieves a harmonious blend of openness and seclusion.

The home’s inside-out philosophy is evident from the moment of arrival, with a courtyard that extends into the central living deck. This adaptable space transitions seamlessly between indoor and outdoor functions, embodying the laid-back coastal lifestyle. The fluid design continues indoors, where an open-plan living area flows naturally toward the main staircase, illuminated by a strategically placed light well.

An entertainment pavilion, separated from the main living areas, features a timber colonnade that provides semi-outdoor circulation while maintaining a connection to nature. Upstairs, the second floor wraps around the light well, with a common area bridging two wings of bedrooms. This thoughtful design ensures that all second-floor rooms enjoy full frontage and openness, while the central living deck below remains the connective heart of the home.

Text by the Architects: Designing a house in the high-density area of the resort town of Pattaya takes a little bit of design techniques from here and there. On one aspect the house is expected to express the laid-back nature of the seaside town, on the other hand the surroundings are quite cramped with neighbor walls right next to ours. The architect then carefully studies massing placement and utilize the negative space as the feature element to craft the overall architectural composition.
