Architecture Design of The Waterfall House
Description About The Project
The Waterfall House designed by Greenbox Design, finds itself amidst a backdrop of apartments, schools, and residences. The challenge was clear: how to craft a home that balances privacy with connectivity to the urban fabric, all while considering the impact on both the inhabitants and their surroundings. Given the constraints of space, a vertical design was not just a choice, but a necessity.
The initial blueprint prioritized accessibility, dividing the layout into public, semi-private, and private zones. The ground floor was earmarked for communal spaces, with family quarters and living areas occupying the second and third floors. To combat the noise pollution from the surrounding traffic, the swimming pool was ingeniously placed on the second floor – not only a refreshing retreat but also a source of tranquility. The waterfall cascading from the pool not only adds a serene touch but also serves as a buffer, dampening external sounds and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for the family above.
Privacy was paramount, particularly concerning the adjacent apartment building to the north. A tall, opaque wall was erected, not only shielding the family from prying eyes but also cleverly redirecting sunlight to illuminate the interior spaces throughout the day. On the flip side, the South-facing aspect remains open, allowing glimpses of the vibrant city life beyond.
The architectural approach is straightforward yet sophisticated, with clear differentiations between public and private areas. A central void creates a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, while the private quarters exude a sense of solidity without sacrificing ventilation or natural light. Recognizing the tropical climate, vertical funnels were incorporated into the design, facilitating the natural flow of air and mitigating the heat buildup.

The Waterfall House Gallery:
Text by the Architects: On the crowded 560 square-meter area, approximately 100 meters from the Ratchayothin intersection, the context of this land is surrounded by apartments, schools, and residences. We questioned how we could design this house to be private but yet still connected to the context of the main city, considering what would affect the privacy of the house and the owner. Due to the living space conditions and the size of the land, this house has been designed vertically by necessity.
