Description About The Project

Twisted Detached House designed by Phidias Indonesia for the couple with the desire that is still relevant for the next 10–20 years. Surprised thing is that they get an out of the box design from Phidias Indonesia. Utilizing the position of the hook lot, architect M. Harfansyah Azhar explored the twisted detached house design. Also, what makes this residence in South Tangerang stand out, the 2nd floor area is rotated 30 degrees. It makes the house prominent and look different from the surrounding houses.

In the house, the first floor plan consists of a living room, dining room, one-bedroom, and compact inner court to maintain the natural light penetrating into the house. The second floor plan, which is crossing above them, has three more bedrooms and two bathrooms. Those rooms have exclusive access to the small rooftop on the third floor.

In the built form or façade, the site’s corner emphasized by twisting the second floor to follow the corner axis, create a “detached” box apart from the first floor. There is a black box massing on the second floor, crossing the site towards the corner. Each structural column aligned to hold the twisted massing on the second floor without interfering with the spatial quality of the first floor. It becomes a significant corner statement of the house that created to be “detached” or separate from overall massing, but still one integrated composition.

Apart from the corner strategy, this house has also a rich yet balanced combination of building materials and colors. By using terracotta rooster combined with textured white wall, some wood accent, and black color for the statement, this house presents a monumental dynamic masterpiece in the neighborhood.

Indeed, the flifting facade makes the house impressive from the surrounding houses.

The geometry game added to the 2nd floor facade to maintain the owner’s privacy. The black color was chosen to highlight the floating impression on the facade. Besides, rotating the facade to make it stand out more.

The entrance wall uses hebel material that formed manually to give a 3D effect. On the floor, a combination of exposed cement, concrete wood, and stone applied.

The owner likes something minimalistic. Therefore, the color tone chosen is more monochromatic. Namely, white through marble floors, black on sofas and chairs, and wood elements through HPL plywood for Twisted Detached House.

Not iron or wood. The choice fell on the glass material as a stair railing to give the house a broad impression. Also, small lights on each step that beautify the corner.

Text by the Architects: Situated on a corner site, this house has two facades with one additional facade facing the corner. In general, this house provides a variety of spatial experiences that well interpreted both in the plans and in the built form.
