A Horizontal Dialogue with the Waterfront
Sunset Residence, designed by Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design, is conceived as a quiet yet confident response to its coastal setting. Stretching gracefully along the water’s edge, the residence is composed of elongated horizontal forms and layered planes that echo the calm rhythm of the horizon.
Rather than pursuing vertical drama, the architecture emphasizes balance and proportion. Deep overhangs extend outward, creating sheltered outdoor zones while reinforcing the home’s strong horizontal identity.
“Our intention was to let the architecture sit low and expansive, mirroring the calmness of the water,” Kobi Karp explains. “The house becomes an extension of the landscape rather than an object placed upon it.”

Framing Nature Through Transparency
Floor-to-ceiling glazing plays a central role in shaping the experience of Sunset Residence. Expansive glass walls dissolve visual barriers, allowing natural light to flood the interiors while framing uninterrupted views of the water.
Throughout the day, light moves across surfaces, softening edges and animating spaces without the need for ornamentation. The result is an interior environment that feels constantly connected to its surroundings, responsive to changing skies and reflections.
“Light is the most powerful material we work with,” says Karp. “Glass allows us to choreograph how light enters, moves, and transforms each space.”

Material Restraint and Warmth
The material palette is deliberately restrained, relying on stone, wood, and smooth plaster to create a sense of warmth within the home’s clean architectural framework. These natural materials ground the residence, adding tactile richness that contrasts with the clarity of its lines.
Textures are layered subtly rather than expressed boldly, reinforcing the sense of calm and continuity throughout the home. Each material choice contributes to an atmosphere that feels refined yet deeply livable.

Spatial organization within Sunset Residence relies on shading, orientation, and layered planes rather than walls or partitions. Each zone is carefully articulated to provide shelter and privacy while maintaining visual openness and fluid movement.

“True openness isn’t about removing walls,” Karp notes. “It’s about creating spaces that naturally guide how people move, gather, and retreat.”
