Architecture Design of CCA House

Description About The Project

CCA House, designed by Greg Wright Architects, is a striking example of a building that seamlessly integrates memory and context while presenting a modern, unexpected exterior.

With its dark color and angled composition, the house is a renovation that preserves much of the original layout and geometry of the grand faux-Tudor styled homestead. The new design respects the established garden bank, mature trees, and existing pool, harmonizing with the site’s natural features.

The material palette balances bold, minimal new elements with the natural warmth and texture of timber and stone. The interplay between interior and exterior spaces and the views plays a crucial role in the house’s experience, offering vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, the 12 Apostle mountain range, the cableway, Lions Head, garden trees, and the verdant planted retaining bank. These views are thoughtfully framed and diverse, enhancing the house’s connection to its surroundings.

The choice of a dark color for the base palette was a bold decision by the owners and their architectural team, setting a benchmark for progressive architectural aesthetics. The black facade makes a strong statement from the street yet blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, complementing the greenery, the golden hues of the timber, and the varying light on the facade.

Bold colors, lines, and forms are balanced to create a sophisticated architectural and interior statement. The CCA House stands as a testament to the balance between acknowledging context and memory while establishing a unique identity that shapes a new future for the site.

Text by the Architects: CCA House is wonderful example of a building that in its essence is informed by both memory and context yet, in its outer appearance, one would never expect this.
