Architecture Design of GJ House

Description About The Project

GJ House designed by Estudio GMARQ, located on a double lot in a gated community on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, is a modern minimalist home designed for a young family. The clients desired a home with modern architecture, simple lines, a strong connection with nature, ample natural light, and spacious interiors.

The design features a large white rectangular prism on the upper floor, resting on an exposed concrete base on the ground floor. The front façade has minimal openings for privacy, creating a striking and pure volume, while the back of the house opens completely towards the garden.

The ground floor contains the public and common spaces, including the living room, kitchen, dining room, playroom, service areas, and a closed barbecue area that extends into the garden. Floor-to-ceiling windows create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.

A wooden staircase with floating steps links the ground and upper floors in a sculptural manner. A wooden volume separates the dining area from the kitchen, while an exposed concrete wall incorporates exterior elements into the interior. The use of neutral colors, warm wood, and green surroundings results in a harmonious color palette.

The upper floor houses three bedrooms and a playroom, offering privacy by almost completely closing off to the street and opening to the garden. Skylights in the corridor allow natural light to flood the area without compromising privacy, projecting shifting shadows throughout the day. The playroom has views of two green roofs at the front and back of the house. Sliding black aluminum brise soleils provide shade and privacy, adjustable according to the time of day, season, and the residents’ preferences.
