Architecture Design of The House of Three Trees

Description About The Project

The House of Three Trees designed by Gallardo Llopis Arquitectos is a harmonious blend of prismatic, white volumes intersected by the organic presence of three slender trees within open-air patios. Situated amidst the rustic charm of Ibiza’s heartland, where tradition meets innovation, the dwelling stands as a testament to architectural prowess against a backdrop of pine forests and verdant fields.

Drawing inspiration from the island’s iconic cubic architecture, the design seamlessly integrates contemporary elements while paying homage to the time-honored tradition of dry-stone construction. The result is a dialogue between abstract architectural forms and the rugged landscape they inhabit.

Characterized by its elongated proportions and inward-facing orientation, the residence fosters an introspective ambiance, inviting inhabitants to immerse themselves in an interior sanctuary. Blurring the boundaries between inside and out, the strategic placement of patios and terraces creates a dynamic interplay of light and space, while ensuring privacy and tranquility.

Materiality plays a pivotal role in delineating function and form, with rough-hewn stone juxtaposed against smooth white surfaces, evoking a sense of harmony and contrast. Warmth pervades the interiors, courtesy of grain-textured wood furnishings and paneling, extending seamlessly across the stone floors that blur the boundary between inside and out.

Transparency reigns supreme, as expansive glass panels dissolve barriers, seamlessly connecting interior spaces with the verdant garden beyond. In this architectural symphony, tradition and modernity converge, crafting a timeless sanctuary that transcends the confines of mere shelter.

Central to the design ethos are the courtyard sanctuaries, each anchored by a majestic tree – be it the slender cypress, the weathered olive, or the graceful willow — imbuing the spaces with a sense of serenity and contemplation.

Structural ingenuity manifests in daring cantilevers and suspended volumes, crafting shaded alcoves and sheltered retreats that frame the surrounding landscape.

Combined between both materials, the grained surface of the wood becomes evident in free-standing furniture and panelling, impregnating with warmth interior spaces ennobled by the solidity and homogeneity of a stone floor that expands beyond the interior boundaries of the house.

A sweeping staircase, seemingly weightless, serves as a luminous conduit between levels, adorned with metal plates that dance in the ethereal glow.

The House of Three Trees Gallery:

Text by the Architects: On a solid foundation of carved rock walls, the rotundity of the prismatic, white, and abstract volume is fragmented by the opening of patios around the slender silhouettes of three trees. Around it, free and fluid orbits the space of the house, protected in the delicate embrace of an architecture that levitates, weightless and defiant, on the interior landscape.
