Perched on a steeply sloped site in Kottayam, Kerala, Viswam Residence is an architectural masterpiece by N&RD, designed to provide a peaceful retreat for a businessman and his family. The client envisioned a second home near his business center, yet far from the city’s chaos, offering a private and serene escape.

“The client sought a space that could serve multiple functions— a vacation home for family, a business meet-up venue, and a personal retreat for relaxation,” the architects shared with Luxury Houses Magazine.

An Elegant Approach to Entry and Circulation

Accessing Viswam Residence is an experience in itself, with a thoughtfully designed series of terraced steps interspersed with landscaped pockets.

✔ Grand Entrance Sequence: The main entry is approached via tiered landscaping, framing the home’s striking façade.
✔ Integrated Service Block: A staff quarter, service kitchen, and laundry area define the edge of the entry sequence, ensuring functional efficiency.
✔ Dual Access Points: The upper entrance leads to the foyer and master suite, while the lower entry connects to parking and a private gym.

“The terraced steps serve both functional and aesthetic purposes, creating a dynamic threshold between nature and architecture,” the team noted.

At the core of the residence lies a long, open-plan common area, comprising the living and dining zones.
