Architecture Design of California Meadow House
Description About The Project
California Meadow House located in Woodside – an affluent town near Silicon Valley. Designed by architect Jim Olson of the Seattle firm Olson Kundig, the house created for a client who loves entertaining and social connectedness. Indeed, reflecting pool, a small vineyard and an underground pub feature in this sprawling house in northern California designed by American firm Olson Kundig.
The house sits on a 3.5-acre, property that divided into two parts: one suggests a human touch upon the landscape. While the other is meant to be wilder in character. The grounds were designed by Surfacedesign, a landscape architecture firm based in San Francisco. Encompass 17,000 square feet, the home consists of low lying, rectilinear pavilions arranged in an L shaped formation around outdoor spaces.
On the other hand, the sprawling floorplan utilizes walls of glass to maximize connections to the gardens and nearby Santa Cruz mountains. Also, with bedrooms and living spaces carefully selected to make the most of the day’s passing sunshine. South of the public zone are three auxiliary buildings. One serves as a two – bedroom guesthouse. While the others hold an outdoor living pavilion and a dining pavilion with an underground pub. Besides, the auxiliary parts arranged in a staggered formation and echo the organization of the adjacent vineyard.
Once insides, Olson designed numerous pieces of decor for the house. Include the dining room and living room furniture, exterior lounge furniture, the main suite’s bed and nightstands, and several lighting fixtures. Also, steel, nickel, teak and leather are among the materials used to fabricate the pieces. Then, the result is a home integrated with nature. Not only philosophically and visually, but from a practical perspective as well.

The California Meadow House Gallery:
Text by the Architects: Envisioned as a singular continuous, flowing expression, this family estate links architecture, interior design, art and landscape into an integrated whole. Unified around the central “home base” living area, views radiate across several reflect pools to gardens and the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains. The house includes three auxiliary parts and extensive outdoor living areas. But the subdued sophistication of the design helps dissolve the home into its verdant site.
