A Modern Retreat Along the Water by SDH Studio Architecture + Design
Set along the calming edge of a scenic Florida canal, 1925 Residence by SDH Studio Architecture + Design is a striking example of contemporary living deeply rooted in its natural surroundings. This three-story architectural gem balances openness and privacy with bold design gestures and warm materiality, offering an immersive living experience that engages with light, texture, and water.
The concept for the home was born from a desire to create a fluid dialogue between built space and the waterfront landscape. As SDH Studio’s founder, Stephanie Halfen, explains: “From the very beginning, we envisioned this home as a bridge between nature and architecture—every gesture had to respect and highlight the presence of the water.”

Sculptural Facades Framing Light and Landscape
The front façade presents an elegant composition of floating horizontal planes and vertical metal louvers, subtly shielding the residence from the street while allowing light to filter into the interior. Floor-to-ceiling glass on the upper levels gives the structure a luminous, airy quality, contrasting the heavy presence of natural stone and board-formed concrete.
“The material palette is intentionally minimal, but each element—wood, concrete, metal—is treated as a sculptural medium,” notes Carlos Vega, project architect. “Together they orchestrate a sensory rhythm, one that evolves throughout the day with changing light and shadows.”
The front entry sequence is defined by a sweeping staircase flanked by dual carports, leading visitors past a reflective water feature that cools and calms, establishing a serene tone from the very first step.
Indoor-Outdoor Living Reinvented
At the rear, the home opens entirely to the canal. Expansive sliding glass walls dissolve boundaries, offering the owner a direct, uninterrupted relationship with nature. Concrete trellises integrated into the roofline frame the sky, while covered terraces extend social areas out toward the infinity-edge pool.
“Every square foot of this home is choreographed to align with outdoor views,” says Halfen. “We didn’t just design the house to sit beside the water—we designed it to breathe with it.”
A water wall anchors the outdoor space, echoing the rhythm of the canal beyond. From the sun deck to the gourmet entertaining area, every exterior component enhances the spatial narrative of rest, connection, and contemplation.

Designing with Emotion and Light
One of the defining experiences of the 1925 Residence is its ability to change mood throughout the day. Morning light filters gently through the louvers, casting linear patterns across wood-lined interiors. By sunset, the home glows from within, its glass walls becoming warm lanterns reflecting off the water.
“This home is more than a place to live—it’s a place to feel,” says Luciana Landa, senior designer. “Every decision was made with emotional resonance in mind, from the tactile texture of the concrete ceilings to the warmth of the timber that grounds each space.”

A Home Designed for Stillness and Sociality
While architectural details frame the environment with precision, the home’s layout ensures fluidity between solitude and gathering. The rear infinity pool stretches out over the canal’s edge, with a floating dock that provides direct access to the water. Indoors, open-plan social spaces flow easily into more intimate corners, creating a seamless rhythm for everyday living.
As Halfen shared with Luxury Houses Magazine, “Good architecture should heighten your awareness of place and time. At 1925 Residence, the home doesn’t just sit by the canal—it becomes part of its ecosystem.”
