Architecture as a Composed Landscape
Floating Cubes House, designed by Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design, is conceived as an artificial landscape rather than a conventional dwelling. Sharp sculptural lines, precise proportions, and a carefully orchestrated composition define the home, which appears to rest lightly on a watery sill, echoing an elemental connection to the earth.
The house is composed of four flat horizontal planes, arranged as floating volumes that extend outward into the surrounding greenery. This deliberate geometry creates a sense of calm monumentality while allowing the architecture to feel weightless and composed.
“Strong geometry doesn’t need to feel heavy,” Kobi Karp explains. “When proportion, light, and material are in balance, architecture can feel grounded yet effortless.”
Floating Volumes and Spatial Balance
The horizontal planes project beyond the enclosed spaces, forming deep overhangs that provide shade while emphasizing the home’s linear expression. These floating volumes establish a rhythmic sequence of solid and void, privacy and openness, allowing each box to function independently while remaining visually connected.
Set against expansive lawns and reflective water surfaces, the architecture gains depth and softness. The water elements act as both spatial separators and visual amplifiers, reflecting the building’s form and the changing sky above.
Transparency and Indoor-Outdoor Continuity
Glass walls dissolve the boundaries between interior and exterior, allowing the home to breathe within its lush surroundings. From the main living spaces, views extend seamlessly into the garden, where greenery and water become integral components of daily life.
Each volume balances openness with discretion, offering framed views outward while maintaining a sense of enclosure and retreat. The living room flows effortlessly into the landscape, reinforcing the idea that the home is not placed on the site, but rather woven into it.
“Our intention was to create continuity,” the architect notes. “The house opens itself to nature without ever losing its sense of structure or privacy.”
Light, Shade, and Material Expression
Abundant windows fill the interiors with natural light from morning to evening, while the extended planes ensure enduring shade throughout the day. This careful modulation of light creates a dynamic atmosphere, where shifting shadows animate walls and floors.
The material palette reinforces this balance between warmth and restraint. Natural timber, smooth stone, and cool white stucco are layered to soften the architecture’s sharp geometry, grounding the contemporary form in tactile, natural textures.
