A Grand Entrance Defined by Geometry
685 Six Fountains by JK Designs Architects introduces itself through a commanding architectural gesture. The L-shaped entrance feature establishes a strong visual identity—both assertive and composed—setting the tone for a residence that balances grandeur with restraint.

As the architects describe, “The entrance is conceived as a sculptural statement—anchoring the home while guiding the experience inward.”

Situated in Pretoria, the home’s presence is marked by clarity of form, where bold lines and volumes create a sense of order and quiet sophistication.

A Refined Material Palette
The house achieves a striking balance through its carefully curated materials. Light-toned whites and soft greys form a calm architectural canvas, while warm timber elements introduce a sense of tactility and comfort. These are sharply contrasted by black steel accents, which frame openings and define structural elements with precision.

“Contrast is essential to the identity of the house,” the architects explain, “where light and dark, warm and cool materials work together to create visual depth and hierarchy.”

This interplay enhances the legibility of the design, allowing each component to stand out while contributing to a cohesive whole.

Softening Structure Through Landscape
While the architecture is defined by strong vertical and horizontal lines, the integration of greenery plays a crucial role in softening its expression. Strategically placed planters punctuate the façade, introducing layers of depth and a dynamic relationship between built form and nature.

As noted by the design team, “Landscape becomes an extension of the architecture—modulating scale, adding texture, and humanizing the geometry.”
These green interventions break the rigidity of the structure, offering moments of pause and visual relief.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living
At ground level, the residence opens generously toward a courtyard entertainment area centered around a pool. Large openings dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing spaces to flow effortlessly into one another.

“The living areas are designed to extend outward,” the architects share, “creating a continuous experience where indoor comfort and outdoor leisure coexist.”

Framed views toward the courtyard and beyond reinforce this connection, ensuring that natural light, fresh air, and landscape are ever-present within the home.

A Balance of Presence and Permeability
685 Six Fountains is ultimately a study in balance—between bold architectural expression and subtle detailing, between structured geometry and softened edges, and between enclosure and openness.

Through its interplay of form, material, and landscape, the residence offers a refined yet inviting living environment—one that reflects contemporary design while remaining deeply connected to its context.
