Architecture Design of Baan Khun Yak House
Description About The Project
Baan Khun Yak House by Dminusplusb tackles the challenge of transforming a solid square structure into a design that feels open and airy while maintaining a fixed layout. The solution integrates thoughtful architectural elements to balance functionality, aesthetics, and environmental responsiveness.
On the ground floor, sliding glass doors create an illusion of separation between the lower and upper levels, enhancing transparency and flow. To address sunlight exposure and heat, an extended awning was introduced, effectively blocking direct sunlight while softening the building’s overall appearance.
The second floor contrasts sharply with the openness below, featuring slatted glass sections and a combination of solid and artificial wood walls that provide privacy for the bedrooms. This layered facade introduces a dynamic interplay of light and shadow while offering controlled views of the outdoors.
The rooftop incorporates ventilation holes to mitigate heat accumulation, ensuring thermal comfort. Strategically designed window openings provide additional depth and texture to the facade, serving as protective layers against sun and rain while adding visual interest.
Baan Khun Yak House seamlessly merges practicality with innovative design, creating a home that responds to its environment and offers a harmonious living experience.

The Baan Khun Yak House Gallery:
Text by the Architects: This house was created by fixing the positions of various rooms. Therefore, it was unable to adjust them freely due to the limitations of the planning. The shape of the house is square and solid. The question was how to make this house look as airy as possible while maintaining the layout of the various rooms. For this reason, the ground floor was chosen to have sliding glass doors to make it look like the second floor was separated from the lower part. The thickness of the building blocks was reduced as well as the view of the residents of the house in the living room and dining area on the ground floor.
