The Project “Seven Series House” Information:

A Fusion of Automotive Form and Architectural Precision

In the heart of Huizen, The Netherlands, BRUIS Architectuur in collaboration with IHC Architects introduces the Seven Series House—a groundbreaking residential project that fuses the aerodynamics of automotive design with modern architectural language. Inspired by the flowing lines of the BMW 7 Series, the residence blurs the boundary between form and performance.

ā€œOur goal was to translate the elegance and dynamism of automotive design into the built environment,ā€ architect Jesse Bruis told Luxury Houses Magazine. ā€œThe 7 Series is known for its fluid form and precision, and we saw an opportunity to infuse that DNA into this home.ā€

Dynamic Volumetrics and the Illusion of Levitation

The house is defined by two main horizontal volumes: the lower level—a base that folds around the space with sculptural continuity—and the upper volume, which appears to float above thanks to the mirrored cladding underneath. This mirror-finished soffit not only reflects the surrounding forest, but also accentuates the weightlessness of the design.

ā€œWe wanted the upper volume to levitate,ā€ explained lead architect Ivo van den Berg. ā€œUsing mirrored panels creates a surreal optical illusion—it’s like the house becomes part of the forest canopy.ā€

This play of materiality and gravity transforms the home into a living sculpture. At night, LED lighting embedded in the architectural seams illuminates the house’s contours, further emphasizing its futuristic silhouette.

A Courtyard That Reconnects With Nature

At the heart of the home lies a central courtyard—a tranquil patio garden visible from nearly every room. This biophilic gesture is more than aesthetic; it breaks the rigidity of the cubist volumes and reinforces a direct connection to nature. It also forms a spatial anchor between the wings of the home.

ā€œThis inner garden is our answer to the client’s desire for serenity and openness,ā€ said Bruis. ā€œIt’s the breathing space around which all life in the house revolves.ā€

Programmatic Symmetry and a Lifestyle in Balance

The ground floor is meticulously symmetrical, divided by an elegant entrance axis. One side houses a spacious living wing; the other, a culinary domain with an expansive kitchen and dining area. Both wings feature independent staircases that ascend to the upper floor, where symmetry continues in the form of dual bedroom suites, each complete with walk-in closets and en-suite baths.

Between these private zones lies a linear glass corridor housing the office—a space that opens onto both the courtyard and the swimming pool, allowing work and leisure to coexist seamlessly.

Minimalism, Light, and the Theater of Night

Every material, from the mirror cladding to the extensive glazing, has been selected with restraint. The emphasis is on shadow, reflection, and clean geometry. The full-height glass faƧades at the rear dissolve boundaries between interior and exterior, offering panoramic views of the wooded surroundings.

ā€œThe house comes alive after sunset,ā€ van den Berg added. ā€œIt becomes a lantern in the forest—glowing, floating, and engaging the landscape in an entirely new way.ā€
